“The great thing about getting older is that you don’t lose all the other ages you’ve been.” – Madeleine L’Engle
Today marks the end of my 53rd year spinning around the sun, and what a year it’s been. Some days brought new knowledge and an urge to take on the world, other days it felt like I’ve aged 10 years in one year.
There were new babies and friends lost, illnesses and health breakthroughs, opportunities gained and opportunities gone.
Folks are so argumentative online, and the simplest thing can be like stirring up a hornet’s nest. I guess some folks have never heard that if you can’t say anything nice, maybe you shouldn’t say anything at all. At times it makes me wonder if I should keep doing this.
Thankfully the good folks are still out there, too, and we’re looking forward to meeting some of you at next Saturday’s open house. (More information on the open house here.)

We got the first delivery of materials for building the new outbuilding this week – which apparently acted like a rain dance. It’s funny how we went for months without rain, only to have it start up again once it’s time to get building. The ground is so very dry that the rains soaked up quickly, so it’s not a serious concern.
It’s bedtime for the flocks, so I’d best sign off and get all the feathered mischief makers tucked in.
All our best to you and yours,
Laurie (and August IV, August V, and Duncan)

If you’re in the market for a powerful but compact stand mixer, check out the Nutrimill Artiste mixer review. I received one for review, but since our Bosch Universal mixer is still going strong, I gifted the review mixer to our young neighbors with a growing family. The kids got kick out of ice cream maker attachment and homemade waffle cone maker, too.
Read the review here, and catch the Summer Savings Sale through July 31st.
We’re enjoying cherry season with this cherry pit vodka. The aroma is a-maz-ing! You can use it in baking, recipes, or adult beverages.
What’s the best way to store leftover garden seeds for next year or long term? We’ll share how we do it and mistakes to avoid, plus which seeds last best. This is a great time of year to pick up seeds on clearance, but a bargain is not a bargain if the seeds won’t store well.
