“Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden.” ― Phaedrus

This week in my inbox, I received pitches from a company that wanted to have us use their AI system to write posts, and another from a company that wanted to help us bust our writers if they were using AI technology to write posts.

Where once you knew there was a real human behind information, now with the growing use of AIs and expert systems, it’s getting harder and harder to tell what’s real and what’s not. The AIs are good enough that they’re generating articles, creating images, building full videos featuring people who don’t exist and more.

It has me wondering if writers like myself may soon become extinct as more and more people simply take whatever information their automated assistant spits out as gospel and don’t look for information themselves.

Personally, after watching how information is being manipulated online, I don’t use any automated assistants, and I switched to swisscows.com for online search to get some “less restricted” answers.

I know I am old school, but I’m following people I trust now so I have better odds of finding their information later. I’m also getting hard copies of books, as I’ve noticed more information online abruptly changing or disappearing altogether.

I don’t know what the coming years will bring, but I do know that there is old knowledge worth saving, and new knowledge worth discovering. We’ll do our best to keep offering you what we can of both.

All our best to you and yours,

Laurie (and August IV, August V, and Duncan)
